The transaction list
Transactions is the full ledger, and it is the screen where most questions get answered.
The number at the top
With no filters, the header shows Balance and savings: everything you have, savings pockets included. It is the same figure as the balance card on Home and as the sum of the account carousel.
It changes in three cases, and only three:
- Categories selected: it becomes the flow of what you filtered for the selected period.
- One account selected: it becomes that account's balance.
- Savings tab: it becomes your total saved.
Like every balance, it ignores the date filter. Holding it down reveals the complete figure without abbreviation.
The three tabs of the carousel
Categories shows one card per category with what you spent on it in the period. Accounts shows one card per account with its balance. Savings shows one card per pocket.
Tapping a card filters the list below. The Savings tab behaves slightly differently on purpose: entering it filters the list to savings movements only, and leaving it clears that filter, because a savings view mixed with everything else was confusing.
Filters
The filter sheet holds the date range, categories, accounts and two switches worth knowing:
- Include opening balances. Off by default. These rows record where an account started and they are not spending, so they would only add noise. The switch is purely about visibility: showing them does not add them to any total.
- Balance with all currencies. Only appears if you have more than one currency. It turns on the converted view across the whole app. Details.
The date range is shared with Home, so setting the month in one place sets it in the other. Reports inherits it too, until you give Reports a range of its own.
Reading a row
Colour carries meaning, and it is never the only signal:
- Green is income.
- Red is an expense.
- Blue is money moved into or out of savings. Blue means saved, not spent.
- Neutral is a transfer between your own accounts, which changes nothing about how much you have.
A transfer that crosses between currency worlds is the exception: when you are looking at only one of the two worlds, money really did come in or go out of that view, so the row keeps its green or red.
Savings rows show a piggy bank rather than the icon of their underlying category, because with the same icon a savings deposit read like any other transfer.
Editing, deleting and learning
Open a transaction to edit it. Long press to delete.
If you correct the category of something that was captured automatically, the app remembers it for that title and applies the correction to future captures. This is the single highest value habit in the app: correcting three or four recurring merchants once makes automatic capture feel accurate forever after.
Transfers are the exception again: they cannot be edited, only deleted and recreated.
Searching
Search matches transaction titles. It is fast even on large ledgers, and it combines with the filters, so you can search inside a category, a month or an account.
Time and order
The ledger stores the day of a transaction, not the time. Within a single day, the most recently added row appears first, so what you just recorded is at the top where you can check it.
