Savings and goals

A pocket is money you set aside, kept separately from your accounts. It can have a goal, "3,000,000 for the trip in December", or no goal at all, which is what an emergency fund looks like.

The free plan includes three active pockets. Pro removes the limit. A goal you completed and emptied stops counting, so finishing one frees its slot.

Money in and out

Pockets hold real money, and every change is backed by a movement in your ledger. The saved figure is never edited by hand, which is what keeps your net worth from drifting.

  • Deposit: money leaves one of your accounts and enters the pocket. The account goes down, the pocket goes up, your net worth stays the same.
  • Withdraw: the mirror image. There is a Withdraw all shortcut, and it truncates rather than rounds up, so it can never ask for more than the pocket holds.
  • Move: send money from one pocket to another.
  • Return to source accounts: a switch on the withdrawal sheet that empties the pocket back to the accounts it came from, each one receiving what it contributed.

When you create a pocket you can also start it with money, and the app asks where it comes from: from an account, which is a transfer, or new money that was outside the app, which raises your net worth and is labelled clearly.

Depositing from an account in a foreign currency requires Pro. Withdrawing never does, because trapping someone's money behind a paywall is not something we are willing to do.

Where the money actually is

A pocket is a label, not a vault. The money is physically sitting in some bank account, and the app works out which one from your own ledger: fund a pocket from Bancolombia and later from Davivienda, and the breakdown shows both, with what each contributed.

You can also declare where a pocket is held, which covers the part the ledger cannot know: new money, credited interest, contributions from Principal. Anything still unattributed shows as unspecified.

Interest

A pocket, or better the account holding it, can have an interest rate. Enter the rate the way your bank advertises it, along with how often it compounds and how often it is paid.

With automatic crediting on, the app posts the interest earned as a single movement when it is due. This is the only movement the app creates on its own, and it exists because in the real world the bank does credit it by itself; the app is only reflecting reality rather than moving money you did not move.

Interest is always an estimate. Withholdings and exact day counts differ from bank to bank, and the app says so rather than pretending precision it does not have.

When the same money is in an account that pays interest and the pocket has its own rate, the account wins. The two are never added together, because that would count the same interest twice.

Goals with a plan

Give a goal a target date and the editor tells you, live, how much per month gets you there. Add a start date if you are not starting today, and the plan counts from then rather than marking you late for months that had not begun.

The board shows what your goals ask for per month, what your actual pace has been over the last ninety days, and a verdict:

  • On track, if no closed month was left unfunded. A goal created today is on track, because day zero is exactly where the plan starts.
  • Behind, only when a month that already ended came up short.
  • Not started, when the journey begins in the future.

The monthly figure is gross, with no interest discounted, so that it matches every other place the same number appears. Projected interest is shown separately, as a projection.

Milestones and finishing

Crossing 50% and 75% is announced once. Reaching 100% opens a celebration with what you saved, how long it took and the reason you wrote when you created the goal.

Then the app asks you to do the practical thing: withdraw the money to the account you will spend it from. Until you do, the goal stays in plain sight with its balance, because hiding money that is still there would be the wrong kind of tidy. Once emptied, it folds into Completed goals and you can delete it whenever.
