AI Money, explained

AI Money is a personal finance app for iPhone and Android. You record what you earn and what you spend, and the app turns that into balances, budgets, savings, debts and reports you can actually read.

The difference from a spreadsheet is not the charts. It is that you barely have to type. A bank SMS, a WhatsApp message, a photo of a receipt, a voice note or an Apple Pay purchase can all become a transaction, and each one lands in the right account with the right category.

This site documents how every part of the app behaves: what is free, what needs Pro, what stays on your phone and what travels to a server. If something here does not match what you see in the app, the app is right and this page is wrong, so tell us.

What you can do with it

Record money without typing it. Six capture channels feed the same ledger: WhatsApp, bank SMS on Android, payment notifications including Google Pay, Apple Pay through Shortcuts on iPhone, receipt photos and voice notes. Each channel is documented in Capture.

See where you stand. Accounts and their balances, a home dashboard you can rearrange, monthly reports by category, and budgets that warn you before the month ends.

Plan, not just record. Savings pockets with goals, debts you owe and debts owed to you with real interest math, subscriptions and recurring payments so nothing charges you by surprise.

Share money without sharing your life. The Couples space keeps a common fund with your partner. Contributions and shared expenses are visible to both of you; your personal accounts and transactions never are.

Ask instead of digging. Denis, the built-in assistant, answers questions about your own numbers: what you spent on food last month, whether you can afford something, where the money went.

The one idea worth reading first

Two families of numbers live in this app and they are not supposed to match.

A balance is a stock: everything that ever happened to an account, from its opening balance until today. It ignores the date filter you have on screen, because "how much do I have" has nothing to do with which month you are looking at.

A flow is income minus expenses for the period you selected. Your reports, your budgets and the income and expense cards on the home screen are flows.

A balance and a monthly flow that differ is normal. Two flows with identical filters that differ, or the same account showing two different balances on two screens, is a bug, and we treat it as a serious one. The full contract is here.

Where your data lives

Your transaction ledger is stored on your phone, in a local database. It works offline, and it is yours.

Some things do leave the device, always for a specific reason:

What leavesWhyWhere it goes
Your profile: name, country, currency, preferencesSo your setup survives a reinstallFirebase (Google)
The text of an AI question, plus the transactions in the range you asked aboutTo answer itOur Cloud Function, then OpenAI

We do not sell data, and the ledger never leaves your phone unless you turn on cloud backup or sync. Privacy in detail.

Free, and what Pro is for

Everything above that is not marked Pro is free, with no trial clock and no expiry: the ledger, categories, accounts, budgets, reports, savings, debts, subscriptions, the converter and the assistant with daily limits.

Pro pays for the parts that cost us money to run or that need a server: automatic capture from SMS, Google Pay and Apple Pay, multi device sync, higher AI limits, and the shared Couples space. The exact comparison is here.
