Capture Google Pay and wallet payments
When you pay with your phone, your wallet posts a notification with the amount and the merchant. AI Money can read that notification and record the purchase.
Android only. Requires Pro.
Setting it up
- Settings, then Automations, then Google Pay.
- Grant notification access. Android does not let an app ask for this in a normal dialog, so it opens a system settings screen where you enable AI Money by hand.
- Make Google Pay the active capture source. Only one source can be active at a time.
What gets read
Only notifications from wallet and payment apps. Amount, merchant and currency are parsed from the notification, then categorised.
The currency is taken seriously: a bare $ is not assumed to be dollars. The app falls back through the notification's own information, your settings and your profile currency before guessing.
Which account it lands in
Wallet notifications rarely say which bank card was used, and the sender is always Google Pay rather than your bank. So routing here relies on:
- The last four digits, if the notification includes them and you mapped them to an account.
- Your default account for this source.
If neither resolves, the purchase lands in Principal and the notification tells you so. Full cascade in how the account is chosen.
Troubleshooting
Nothing is captured. Notification access is the usual culprit. Android sometimes revokes it after a system update, so check that screen again.
It records the merchant but the amount is odd. Send us a screenshot with the numbers blanked out. Notification formats vary by country and wallet app.
It records twice. You probably have both SMS and Google Pay capture on. Only one source can be active, so pick the one your bank supports better.
