Currency converter

A conversion tool that lives inside the app. It reads rates, it does not touch your money: it creates no transactions, moves no balances and never changes your main currency or your accounts.

Because it costs us nothing extra, it is free for everyone.

Converting

Pick a source currency and a target, type an amount, read the result. Around 164 currencies are available, and the picker has a search box.

The field opens empty. Until you type something, the useful figure is the pair's rate, shown under the card, so the screen is not pretending you asked about an amount you never entered.

Swapping the two currencies keeps the amount you typed, not the result. That is what people expect when they are checking a price both ways.

Rates quoted the readable way

1 COP = 0.0003118 USD is exact and nobody can read it. So when the direct quote falls below 0.01, the app flips it and shows 1 USD = 3,207.19 COP, which is how the question gets asked and how exchange houses publish it.

Every rate carries the date it was published. Rates are cached for 24 hours, so the converter works offline with the last figures it downloaded, and it tells you how old they are.

My currencies

Under the converter there is a quick glance: the same amount converted at once into your main currency plus the currencies you marked as favourites in Settings, up to five.

Each row carries two different figures on purpose:

  • The converted amount, which follows what you type.
  • The unit rate underneath, which does not, because that is the reference figure you came for.

Tap a row to make that currency the converter's target.

What it is not

It is not a way to record a foreign purchase. For that, record the transaction in the account it came from and let the app keep the original currency alongside it, which is explained in Working with several currencies.

It is also not the switch that converts your balances. That one is Balance with all currencies, in the filter sheet.
